PSM Press Statement
15 Februari 2013
I will like to respond to the Statement which appeared in Malaysiakini dated 15 February 2013., PSM logo may confuse people, says Anwar.
I
believe that Anwar may have met some disgruntled PKR supporters in
Sungai Siput who wants to stand in the seat as well insist PSM use their
logo knowing that PSM will reject that. Similarly in other places,
there are similar disgruntled people who oppose PSM symbol and all this
actually boils down to seat negotiation and selection of candidates. The
majority of the rakyat wants a one to one fight with BN and want BN to
go. That is the mood out there. Honestly, I don’t see rural folks
questioning PSM on who is Che Guevara and Moa. They just want to know if
you are with BN or not?. Anything But UMNO .
PSM
on its part has said repeatedly, whatever the outcome of the 4 seat it
is asking for, PSM will give full support and work hard for the victory
of PR in all the other seats. PSM is only asking to stand in the same
four seat is stood last election. Last Election we borrowed PKR logo but
flew our flag with PKR flag. This election we are registered after ten
years struggle, therefore we will use our own logo unless there is a
common PR logo.
On
the question of perception, we believe the fist is the most popular
logo used during the recent Kebangkitan KL rally on the 12th.
In fact in a recent meeting with PR, PAS and DAP leaders said that they
don’t have an issue with the symbol. The fist is also used by Anti
Lynas, Student groups, ABU etc and they have not been accused as
communist. During the EO6 saga, the BN Government tried very hard to
tarnish PSM name but failed as the rakyat did not buy the story.
Similarly there is lots of stories about Anwar which are circulated
which are not true. We go to the people and we explain to them. The same
way, we explain that DAP is not anti Malay and that PAS will not
convert everyone to Islam. So our task is to explain what is the truth.
PSM believes the people are getting matured and they know what is the
truth and what is propaganda perse.
Let
me give some result of 3 corner fights which took place in 2004 in
Perak to deal with the Sungai Siput question. In almost all three corner
fights between DAP and PKR, DAP comes out second and PKR third. There
is exception on the S.Siput parliament and Jalong State seats in Sungai
Siput where DAP becomes third and PKR second. That is because PSM stood
in these 2 seats using PKR logo and flying our fist flag along with
PKRs. So people should not undermine the work PSM does in its area and
the popularity of the fist logo in areas PSM contesting.

Finally
PSM looks forward for some constructive discussion with PR on how to
topple BN in the coming General Election. I leave you with some images.
Except for the PSM own logo, we did not design the rest. On the one on
PR leaders, that was done by PR itself.
